ハリファックスに最初に出来た語学学校で、その歴史は長く、質の高いカリキュラムと、講師に人気があることで有名な語学学校です。ダウンタウンから少し離れた郊外にキャンパスがあります。

学校特徴

iliは1985年に設立され、ハリファックスの中で大変歴史の長い学校です。2001年に校舎を移動し、今はダウンタウンから20分ほど離れたビジネスセンターの中に位置しています。

一般英語のコースでは、午前中に文法、リーディング、ライティング、スピーキング、リスニングを総合的に学び、午後はレベルにより受講科目が異なります。中級以上になると、TOEFLやIELTSの資格対策コース、ビジネス英語、アカデミック英語を選択することができます。全体的に講師への評価がよく、楽しく分かりやすい授業に人気があります。
全体で5段階のレベルがあり、一つのレベルを3ヵ月で終了するのが目標です。

TOEFL（iBT）80点以上の英語上級者は、大学進学プログラムを受講することができ、8週間のプログラムを終了すると、提携大学へTOEFLなしで入学することができます。

月曜日から木曜日まで、夕方にセルフスタディという時間があり、授業で分からなかったことや英語に関する質問を、気軽な雰囲気の中で先生に聞くことができます。
カナダに6箇所しかないCELTA（英語講師になるためのコース）のトレーニングセンターの一つでもあります。

アクティビティ

A Message to Japanese Students from Chris Musial, Marketing Director – ILI

Konichiwa!
My name is Chris Musial and I am one of the owners of the International Language Institute (ILI) in Halifax, Canada. My father founded ILI in 1983 and I have been working at my family's school ever since I was a young adult.

I first came to Japan on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program as an Assistant English Teacher and was assigned to teach in two high schools in Kumamoto Prefecture. I lived with a Japanese host family and taught English to high school students. It was a magical year for me and one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

My first experience in Japan was in a smaller city that was not famous in Canada. Before I left Canada for Japan my friends asked me if I was doing the right thing. They knew many things about Japan but they had never heard of Kumamoto. They were concerned that I would be in a place they didn't know anything about. But I knew why I would benefit from this rich experience to come.

During my first year in Kumamoto I had the opportunity to have maximum exposure to Japan, your language, and your culture. The pace of life was slower in Kumamoto than in large cities so the Japanese people I met had more time to spend with me and show me all the wonderful things your amazing country has to offer.

After completing my first year in Japan, I moved to Tokyo and worked for five years teaching English to businessmen and women in trading companies, banks, and oil companies.

As you can probably guess by now, I love Japan. In six years, I had a wide range of cultural experiences that most of my friends can only dream of. The thing that prepared me the most for this once-in-a-lifetime experience was my first year in a smaller city with a high rating for its quality of life.

Because of my experience in your country, I can recommend to you that Halifax can offer you many of those same qualities that made my experience living in Japan such a success.

Halifax is not too big and it is not too small. It is just the right size to allow international students to come to Canada, practice their English, and thrive.

My father is now semi-retired but my sister and I carry on the work that he started of introducing international students to a friendly family-operated school where you can perfect your English and discover Canada.

I believe that ILI can provide the right kind of environment for you to realize your dream of studying abroad. ILI provides a great location and a great school. Of course, the rest is up to you!

留学の目的は当然英語を学ぶこと。そして英語圏の大学生活を体験すること。カナダを選んだのはアメリカよりも比較的かかる費用が安いのに加えて生活水準が高いと聞いていたためでした。

ILI で過ごしたのは約５ヶ月。３ヶ月間の General English コースと２ヶ月の University Preparatory Programme を受けました。学校の雰囲気はとても過ごしやすくのんびりしているのであせらずに勉強できると思います。特に先生は個性的でとても親しみやすいうえにしっかり生徒を気遣ってくれます。また課外活動がとても充実していて Prince Edward Island などへの旅行をはじめ楽しいプランが毎週末に用意されています。私のいた時期の生徒は日本人と韓国人、メキシコ人が比較的多く、他には中国、スイス、ドイツ、ロシア、ウクライナ、台湾、サウジアラビア、クウェート、カナダ ( ケベック ) 、ブラジルなどから来ていました。

日本とは全く異なる文化や習慣を持った国での生活では、“違う”ということがいかに大変かを身をもって感じられます。それと同時に自分の国の良い所や自分の国にない良い所を見つけることが出来ると思います。カナダに来たことは語学のためだけでなく、自分の考え方や自分の生まれた国を見直すという点においてもとても大きな経験だと思っています。

The first time I came to Nova Scotia I was an exchange student for a year. I had such a great time during that year that I decided to return to continue studying English. When I came back to NS for the second time, I decided to go to Halifax to study at the ILI.

During my stay at ILI, I have made many friends from other countries and I was supported by many teachers. Owing to them, I enjoy my ILI school life with learning other cultures and I achieved my goal in a short time which was acquiring a sufficient IELTS score for entering a college here.

When you have any problems, they will always help you. I have never felt homesick because of the friends, teachers and of course my host family. I can guarantee that you will have a great time in ILI.

先生方や他のスタッフもとても親切で友達のように声をかけられ丁寧に教えてくれます。
English Onlyも徹底しており母国語で話そうものならすぐにバイオレーションが与えられ、放課後余分なExerciseが与えられます。授業後はコンピューターやブッククラブ、エキストラトーフルクラスがあり、常時先生がついているので何でも質問できます。

ハリファックスはとても安全な小さな町で人々も本当にフレンドリーで親切です。道に迷ったら通りがかりの人が声をかけてくれたり、毎日バスで通っているのでバスの運転手と会話をしたりとここはすごくいいところでゆっくりと時間が流れています。
